Update

My apologies to readers of the blog and listeners of the podcast.  Life has been busy and I haven't made any new content for awhile.  My wife and I purchased our first house (which in light of 2020 has been a miracle!), so that has tied us up in regards to time.  I will hopefully begin to churn out some more things before the year is out.  Beginning the Ancient Paths has been an exercise in faith and growth for me.  I wasn't sure people would see or care about any of this.  Though our readership and listening audience is small, I appreciate all who have checked us out and tracked with me on this journey.  Grace and peace to you all.

I think that all of us eventually come to the realization , even if it’s a thought that blinks on and off quickly through our minds,   is that this world isn’t what it should be. Even if comfort and ease make up a large portion of our lives, we have a gnawing suspicion that deep down, things must be better than this. Unless we are completely numb and slightly (or not so slightly) sociopathic, we can clearly see suffering all around us. For a lot of us suffering and loss have significantly formed our lives. We live in its shadow, like a house built on the side of a mountain . People have called life a “veil of tears ”, and no matter how much scientific advancement or human ingenuity is at play, all our lives are affected by the brokenness in the world. The Cross Carries Us as Much as We Carry It

Sorrow casts its shadow on all corners of this world. Joy can equally do the  same;  we live in a world where both are present.  Some mourn; some rejoice. Sometimes crying and laughter  aren’t   very far  apart.    Jesus was God in the flesh and as we read in the Gospels there were times when Jesus was full of joy and sorrow. This is reality and  God embraces it for what it is. He did not hide when He was experiencing either sensation . This is  encouraging;  we can also be honest about  life  too .  In our  culture,  we often want to diminish grief and  only focus on happiness. We construct theologies that become  magical .
